Nvidia is putting $2B into the cloud that sells Anthropic its GPUs

Nvidia is putting $2 billion directly into Nscale, TechCrunch reported on Friday, and Nscale spends its capital on Nvidia accelerators. The rest of the $3.5 billion pre-listing raise is $1.5 billion in convertible notes, ahead of a possible flotation this month.

That is the mechanism worth naming: the money leaves Nvidia’s balance sheet as an investment and returns to it as revenue when the racks are bought, while the stake it purchased appreciates on the strength of the same purchase. Nscale already holds a $45 billion compute agreement with Anthropic, nearly thirteen times the money it is raising now, and that contract is what the accelerators are bought to serve.

This paper’s read: treat published GPU cloud pricing as decreasingly informative. Capacity is being placed inside financed relationships before it reaches a rate card, and allocation inside that chain is decided by the company that also sets the price of the part being allocated.

What it changes If you are not inside one of these financed chains, price 2027 capacity as scarce and do not assume a published rate reflects what large buyers pay.
