In brief

The first AI image-training jury trial did not begin on 8 September, whatever you read

Two filings landed in window, both procedural. The live motion is entry 730, a sanctions motion against DeviantArt, with responses due 15 September, replies 22 September and a hearing on 7 October before Judge William H. Orrick. A case still fighting over a document Midjourney clawed back at its founder’s deposition is not in trial. The plaintiff set now stands at eight, up from the original three.

What it changes Do not plan around an imminent image-model liability verdict. The next date that matters is 7 October.

CourtListener warns that PACER and RECAP items may not be up to date, and sealed minute entries may not surface, so the absence of a trial entry is strong but not conclusive.
